Artistic Transformation of Zero Waste Approach with Waste Objects: Reflections on Jewelry Design

Abstract

This study aims to examine the artistic and conceptual reflections of the zero-waste approach in jewelry design. Today, sustainability debates bring to the forefront the re-evaluation of materials used in design disciplines and the questioning of the environmental impacts of production processes. In this context, the inclusion of waste objects in aesthetic production processes is gaining importance in terms of both environmental awareness and creative design practices. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach, employing document analysis as the data collection method. Within the scope of the study, the works of artists who incorporate waste objects into their production processes in the fields of contemporary art and jewelry design were examined and evaluated using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that waste objects are not only a sustainable material alternative but can also be used as an important means of expression in terms of aesthetic transformation, conceptual narrative, and critical design approaches. Consequently, it has been demonstrated that the zero-waste approach offers new aesthetic possibilities in jewelry design and can contribute to the development of sustainable design practices.

Atık Nesnelerle Sıfır Atık Yaklaşımının Sanatsal Dönüşümü: Takı Tasarımına Yansımalar

Öz

Bu çalışma, sıfır atık yaklaşımının takı tasarımındaki sanatsal ve kavramsal yansımalarını incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Günümüzde sürdürülebilirlik tartışmaları, tasarım disiplinlerinde kullanılan malzemelerin yeniden değerlendirilmesini ve üretim süreçlerinin çevresel etkilerinin sorgulanmasını gündeme getirmektedir. Bu bağlamda atık nesnelerin estetik üretim süreçlerine dâhil edilmesi, hem çevresel farkındalık hem de yaratıcı tasarım pratikleri açısından önem kazanmaktadır. Araştırma nitel bir yaklaşımla yürütülmüş olup veri toplama yöntemi olarak doküman incelemesi kullanılmıştır. Çalışma kapsamında çağdaş sanat ve takı tasarımı alanında atık nesneleri üretim sürecine dâhil eden sanatçıların eserleri incelenmiş ve bu eserler tematik analiz yöntemiyle değerlendirilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgular, atık nesnelerin yalnızca sürdürülebilir bir malzeme alternatifi olmadığını; aynı zamanda estetik dönüşüm, kavramsal anlatı ve eleştirel tasarım yaklaşımları açısından önemli bir ifade aracı olarak kullanılabildiğini göstermektedir. Sonuç olarak sıfır atık yaklaşımının takı tasarımında yeni estetik olanaklar sunduğu ve sürdürülebilir tasarım anlayışının gelişimine katkı sağlayabileceği ortaya konmuştur.
