Dichotomies of "Holy", "Temple" and "Invitation to Religion" According to Religious Studies in the Postmodern Age: Crises, Challenges and Possible Answers

Yıl 2023, Cilt: 1 Sayı: 3, 23 - 54, 30.10.2023

Multidimensional postmodern theories of sacred space offer approaches that manifest themselves in different ways in all societies, can be exposed to historical changes, include time accumulation or discontinuity, and are not compatible or fit into a single space. Moreover, these theories of space define it as a place that can contain spatialities in terms of many subjectivities as well as roles and functions, and they can be abstracted from its own existence (such as the concept of a mosque without physical existence), maintain vital interconnections with secular spaces outside itself, and that is constantly related to itself by functional ties, but can remain disjointed.
In this study, we will try to evaluate postmodern definitions of religion, typologies of sacred and monotheism, theories of space that can diversify the concept of today's temple, and possible answers, as well as the problems of invitation, in the perspective of the comparative History of Religions, which is gradually becoming "a postmodern science of religion".
