On Discovering Picasso in the Footsteps of Faun
Öz
Pablo Picasso is an artist who deserves to be described as the genius of the twentieth century, with
the works he produced throughout his life. Although Picasso’s works are described as picture-in-picture and it
is stated that he does not depend on the style, the idea that he has a unique style is dominant. The artist’s
admiration for the Ancient Greek and Roman classics became the subject of his later works. In our study, we
examined Picasso’s power of expression, the different realities of his art that goes beyond the visible in his
paintings, and how the game he plays with these realities meets Faun. This article is based on exploration and
interpretation of nine mythological Faun portraits completed by Picasso in the city of Antibes, France, where
he settled in 1946, at the end of the Second World War, in the context of archetypes. The figure of Faun gained
importance for Picasso from an early age, he concentrated on his work on this subject in his later years, the
first of which was thirteen years old, and produced hundreds of his visuals. By pairing himself with Faun,
Picasso freed himself in a sense. In our study, Picasso’s paintings on his use of archetypal imagination as a tool
to explore his soul and reveal his inner journey are examined.
