PROLIFERATIVE PERIOSTITIS (GARRE’S OSTEOMYELITIS): CASE REPORT
Öz
Proliferative Periostitis (Garre’s osteomyelitis) is a specific type of chronic osteomyelitis that mostly affects children and adolescents. This chronic disease is characterized by reactive subperiosteal bone formation and nonsuppurative ossifying periostitis as a response to a mild local infection or irritation. Periosteal reaction in Garre's osteomyelitis usually represents an "onion skin" appearance. This disease is rare in occurrence due to the presence of a set of integrated conditions such as chronic infection in a young patient, increased osteoblastic activity and a balance between the virulence of the infectious agents and the resistance of the host. The purpose of this presentation is to report a rare case of Garre's osteomyelitis and to give information about the imaging findings with 2 years follow-up. Key words: Periostitis; osteomyelitis; mandible
