MICROARRAY TECHNOLOGY AND USE IN DENTISTRY

Öz

In recent years, the advances in the computer technologies and molecular biology techniques opened the door to use these techiques together. Microarray technology is based on using new methods which provide the detection of many genes at the same time within one sample. Although the microarray technologies are used particularly in medical science, they are also, used in biological, microbiological and genetical sciences. There are many types of microarray technologies which are used for different purposes. Currently, using microarray techniques bloomed in dental research area. This technique seemed to be very advantageous, as many genes can be detected at the same time unit in the studies which are related with genetic susceptibility. It is considered that, microarray technology is a guide method in the diagnosis of diseases and development of new treatment procedures. The purpose of this review is to make known the microarray method and give information how to use this bioinformatic methods in dentistry.

MİKROARRAY TEKNOLOJİSİ VE DİŞ HEKİMLİĞİ’NDE KULLANIMI

Öz

Son yıllarda bilgisayar teknolojileri ile moleküler biyoloji tekniklerindeki ilerlemeler her iki tekniğin birlikte kullanılmasına olanak tanımaktadır. Moleküler biyolojik yöntemlerdeki gelişmeler ile son yıllarda mikroarray teknolojisi ön plana çıkmıştır. Mikroarray teknolojisi, geleneksel yöntemlerin aksine aynı anda pek çok genin araştırılmasına olanak sağlayan yeni analitiksel metodlar sunmaktadır. Bu teknik özellikle tıp alanı olmakla birlikte; biyoloji, mikrobiyoloji, genetik gibi pek çok alanda da kullanılmaktadır. Farklı amaçlara uygun pek çok mikroarray tipi mevcuttur. Diş hekimliğinde mikroarray tekniğinin kullanımı son yıllarda yeni gelişmekte olan bir sistemdir. Bu yöntem ile aynı anda pek çok genin incelenebilmesinden dolayı genetik yatkınlıkla ilgili birçok çalışma için bu tekniğin avantajlı olacağı düşünülmektedir. Hastalıkların teşhisi ve yeni tedavi stratejilerinin geliştirilmesinde mikroarray teknolojilerinin yol gösterici olacağı düşünülmektedir. Bu derlemenin amacı mikroarray yöntemini tanıtmak ve bu yeni gelişmekte olan biyoinformatiksel yöntemin diş hekimliği alanında kullanımı hakkında bilgi vermektir.
