Dental implantlar çevresindeki kemik yıkımında mikro boşluğun önemi
Günümüzde kemik içi implantların uygulanmasında tek aşamalı ve iki aşamalı olmak üzere başlıca iki temel yaklaşım vardır. İki aşamalı sistemlerde implant gövdesi ve abutment arasında, alveoler kret seviyesinde ya da onun altında konumlanan bir mikro boşluk oluşmaktadır. Tek aşamalı sistemlerde ise implant gövdesi kemik seviyesinin üzerine doğru uzandığı için kret seviyesinde ya da altında böyle bir mikro boşluk oluşmamaktadır. Çeşitli çalışmalarda çift aşamalı implantların çevresindeki marjinal kemik kaybının; mikro boşlukta kolonize olan mikro organizmalara ve bunların ürünlerine bağlı olarak tek aşamalı implantlara kıyasla daha fazla olduğunu gösterilmişse de literatüre bakıldığında bu konuda oldukça çelişkili bilgiler mevcuttur
