Tanımlanması güç bir roman türü olarak var olan fikir romanı, özellikle modernist

romanın ortaya çıkışıyla birlikte gelişim gösteren bir roman türü olarak algılansa

da, fikir romanlarının tarihi ilk romanlara kadar, hatta Platon’un Diyaloglar’ına

kadar uzatılabilir. Fikir tartışmasını anlatının öne çıkan unsuruna dönüştüren bu

tür romanlar, çağdaş dönemde de romancılar tarafından üretilen eserler olmaya

devam etmişlerdir. Nobel ödüllü yazar J. M. Coetzee’nin özellikle son dönem

eserleri, tartıştıkları sıklıkla radikal fikirlerle çağdaş fikir romanlarına iyi birer

örnek oluşturmaktadırlar.

AB S T R AC T

Although novel of ideas, a novel kind which is difficult to define, is regarded as a

novel which has emerged with the emergence of modernist novel, it might easily be

claimed that the history of such novels might be traced back to earliest novels, and

even to the Dialogues by Plato. Making debates of ideas a prominent element of

narration, such novels have continued to be produced by the novelists in

contemporary period. Especially late novels of J.M.Coetzee set good examples for

the contemporary novels of ideas with the ideas, often of radical nature, they

debate and discuss.
