From the past to the present, the built environment has been changing in order to meet the differing human needs. With the development of technology and engineering, the materials used in the buildings have diversified and evolved from mud to marble, brick to bamboo, stone to concrete, carbon fiber to composite products and started to build more advanced structures. One of these developments, which is important for architecture, is the inclusion of steel in the construction process’. It is seen that steel, which is known to have been produced in Anatolia in the 1800s BC, began to be used as a building material in the middle of the 19th century. The reasons such as being a strong material, high tensile strength and cheap production make it indispensable in the construction industry. The aim of this study is to determine the spatial perception and social aesthetic value of the structures created by the steel construction, which has become increasingly widespread in recent years, and which have been the subject of courses in architectural education. Two groups, 50 architects trained in Turkey and 50 non-architects living in Turkey, were shown 4 building photographs made of steel construction and were expected to evaluate. As a result of the study, it is thought that there may be differences of opinion between the 2 groups according to individual criteria and education, and that the color of the material used in the building, its form and the way of application may be determinative in the formation of these opinions. It is thought that this study can shed light on the structures planned to be built with steel construction in the future.
