Öz
The
main topic of our article is Ahmet Davutoglu’s the doctrine of strategic depth,
which has recently left its marks in Turkish foreign policy. Unlike previous
traditional Turkish foreign policy orientation, Turkey that has fully
integrated with regional countries and that has become a regional and global
influence through launching pro-active and peace-loving policies is regarded as
the natural outcome of its unique historical, geographical, cultural and
civilization depth.
Following,
at the outset of the article, the presentation of certain steps that Turkey has
so far rendered on the way of transforming into a regional actor, the doctrine
of strategic depth is defined through both etymological and terminological
perspectives.
After
the importance of the Davutoglu doctrine is emphasized within international
arenas, its certain principles such as zero-problem policy towards the
neighbors, balanced approach towards regional and global powers,
multi-directional policy, promoting good neighborly relations and empowered
representation in international organizations are handled in analytical view.
As
for the last chapter, the economic, cultural and educational repercussions of
the doctrine of strategic depth in the Balkans are investigated. The economic
reflections of the doctrine onto the Balkan region are presented through
commercial relations of Turkey with the regional countries.
