Baptists in Macedonia: From The Beginning to The Dawn of Regeneration 1970

Abstract

The beginnings of the Baptist Church in Macedonia resulted from an administrative change

from Congregationalism through Methodism into Baptist in order to survive the immense

contextual pressure, rather than as a result of Baptist mission. The hostility towards the Protestant

missions in the newly formed Kingdom of Serbians, Croats and Slovenes (later renamed

Yugoslavia) after World War I made the life of the churches in the south of the Kingdom hardly

possible. Groups of believers from Skopje and Radoviš, seeking ways to survive, became Baptist

in 1928 and in 1930, respectively, as the Baptists were mentioned in the Constitution as one of the

faith groups that had equal rights. During the next forty-five years, the two churches struggled in

the especially hostile environment toward the Evangelicals in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and later

in the Socialist Republic of Macedonia (part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia).

VAFTİZCİLER MAKEDONYA’DA: BAŞLANGIÇTAN 1970’TEKİ YENİDEN DOĞUŞUN ŞAFAĞINA KADAR

Öz

Vaftizci Kilise’nin Makedonya’daki kökenleri, Vaftizci Kilise Misyonu’nun bir neticesi olmaktan ziyade, Cemaatçi Kilise’den Metodist Kilise’ye, oradan da Vaftizci Kilise’ye doğru seyreden idari bir değişiklikten doğmuştu. Bunun sebebi de oluşan muazzam baskıya göğüs germe zaruriyetiydi. Şöyle ki, I. Dünya Savaşı’nın ardından yeni kurulan Sırp, Hırvat ve Sloven Krallığı’nın (sonradan Yugoslavya olarak yeniden isimlendirildi) o coğrafyadaki Protestan Misyonlarına gösterdiği düşmanlık, krallığın güneyindeki kiliselerin yaşamalarını neredeyse imkânsız hale getirmişti. Hayatta kalmanın yollarını arayan Üsküplü ve Radoviş’li inançlı gruplar, önce 1928’de ardından 1930’da Vaftizci Kilise’ye katıldılar. Zira anayasada Vaftizcilerden eşit haklara sahip inanç gruplarından biri olarak bahsediliyordu.

Sonraki kırk beş yıl boyunca bu iki kilise, Yugoslavya Krallığı’nda daha sonra Yugoslavya Sosyalist Federal Cumhuriyeti’nin bir parçası olan Makedonya Sosyalist Cumhuriyeti’nde Evanjeliklere karşı oluşturulan düşmanca bir ortamda mücadele ettiler.
