EFFECTS OF ROYAL JELLY ON HORMONES IN PREGNANT AND NEWBORNS

Öz

Royal jelly is a functional food with significant health benefits. Scientific studies have reported that royal jelly has estrogenic effects. The most important factors that accelerate growth during puberty are growth hormone and sex steroids. The use of royal jelly in pregnant women is thought to positively affect fetal growth and neonatal growth and development. This study aimed to determine the effects of royal jelly on sex hormones in pregnant and newborn rats. For this purpose, 80 Wistar albino rats were used. Pregnancy was confirmed in 24 of these rats by smear test. The remaining 56 rats (28 males and 28 females) constituted the newborn experimental group. Two different doses of royal jelly were administered to newborn rats, one of which was given royal jelly and the other not, for 60 days, and sex levels (total testosterone, luteinizing hormone; LH, follicle-stimulating hormone; FSH and estradiol) were determined. LH levels in female newborn rats and testosterone and IGF levels in male newborn rats differed significantly.

ARI SÜTÜNÜN GEBE VE YENİDOĞANLARDA HORMONLAR ÜZERİNE ETKİSİ

Öz

Arı sütü sağlık üzerine önemli etkileri olan fonksiyonel bir gıdadır. Bilimsel çalışmalarda arı sütünün östrojenik etkisi olduğu bildirilmektedir. Ergenlik döneminde büyümenin hızlanmasını sağlayan en önemli etken büyüme hormonu ve seks steroidleridir. Bu çalışmada arı sütünün gebe ve yeni doğan ratlarda cinsiyet hormonları üzerine etkisini belirlemek amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçla 80 Wistar albino rat kullanmıştır. Bunlardan 24’ünün gebeliği smear testi ile doğrulanmıştır. Geri kalan 56 rattan (28 erkek 28 dişi) yeni doğan deneme gurubunu oluşturmuştur. Annesine arı sütü verilmiş ve verilmemiş yeni doğan rat gurubuna 60 gün boyunca iki farklı dozda arı sütü verilmiş cinsiyet hormonu seviyeleri (total testosteron, luteinize edici hormon; LH, folikül uyarıcı hormon; FSH ve estradiol) tespit edilmiştir. Dişi yeni doğanlarda LH, erkek yeni doğan ratlarda ise testosteron seviyeleri önemli oranda farklılık göstermiştir.
