The royal jelly consumed by the queen bee throughout her life causes her reproductive functions to differ. The potential impact of royal jelly consumption on hormonal balance during adolescence is an important issue. 128 female and male Wistar albino rats were used in the study. 400 mg/kg royal jelly was administered by gavage to separate male and female groups for 5, 6, 7, and 8 weeks. At the end of each week, blood samples were taken from rats and the levels of growth hormone, insulin-like growth factor (IGF-I), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), estradiol (E2) and testosterone (T) sex hormones were determined by radioimmunoassay.Histopathological examination was performed on ovarian and testicular tissues taken from the rats. While the levels of growth hormone IGF-I and the sex hormones FSH and LH did not differ significantly between the groups, the difference between testosterone and estradiol levels was found to be statistically significant. Histopathological examinations revealed edema between the seminiferous tubules of the male experimental groups at week 8. Based on the study results, the controlled use of royal jelly during adolescence was recommended.
