This study analyzes weeds using bibliometric methods to reveal their effects on agricultural production and the recent trends in scientific research in this field. Weeds are considered a significant agricultural problem on a global scale due to their role in causing yield losses, disrupting ecosystem balance and threatening biodiversity, and acting as hosts for harmful organisms. Their high adaptability and rapid spread make control difficult; climate change, increased trade, habitat loss, and intensive agricultural practices are increasing their spread. Resistance caused by excessive herbicide use poses serious risks, both economically and ecologically. In this research, 451 studies published in the Web of Science database between 2016 and 2025 were examined using VOSviewer and Bibliometrix software. The findings show that annual scientific output in weed research has increased by 7.6%, and studies receive an average of 19.74 citations. A total of 2.325 researchers contributed to the field, with the USA and Australia standing out as the most productive countries. Among the most influential researchers are Neve, P., Tranel, P. J., Gaines, T. A., and Graham, S. Furthermore, the journals Pest Management Science, Weed Science, and Weed Research are key publications at the center of the literature. Keyword analysis reveals that research is particularly concentrated around the themes of “management,” “herbicide resistance,” “weed management,” and “glyphosate resistance.” Thematic maps show that herbicide resistance and weed management constitute the research areas; while concepts such as agroecology, ecosystem services, and sustainable management are emerging as themes. In conclusion, this demonstrates that weed science has evolved into an interdisciplinary field and provides an important scientific framework that will guide future research on threatened species, resistance mechanisms, and ecological management strategies.
