Öz

Galli bir demiryolu işçisinin oğlu olarak dünyaya gelen Raymond Williams, Cambridge Üniversitesi'nde okurken komünist oldu. Kendisi gibi önemli bir Marksist edebiyat kuramcısı olan Terry Eagleton gibi birçok düşünür ve kuramcı yetiştirmiş, fikirleri ve eserleriyle İngiliz Kültürel Çalışmaları gibi dünya çapında oldukça saygın bir ekolün oluşmasını sağlayan isimlerden biri olmuştur (Inglis, 2005). Uzmanlık alanı İngiliz Edebiyatı olduğu için, çalışmaları kültürün ve kültürel üretimin altyapısal süreçlerini araştırmaktadır. Ancak çalışmaları incelendiğinde Williams'ın ekonomik indirgemeciliğe aşırı vurgu yapan ortodoks bir Marksist olmadığı görülebilir. İktidar ve güç ilişkilerini ekonomik bir perspektiften ele alırken daha geniş bir disiplini takip etmektedir (McGuigan, Moran, 2014).

Öz

Born the son of a Welsh railroad worker, Raymond Williams became a communist while studying at Cambridge University. He has trained many thinkers and theorists such as Terry Eagleton, also an essential Marxist literary theorist, and with his ideas and works, he has become one of the names that have led to the formation of a highly respected worldwide school such as British Cultural Studies (Inglis, 2005). Since his speciality is English Literature, his work explores the infrastructural processes of culture and cultural production. However, following his work, it can be seen that Williams is not an orthodox Marxist who overemphasizes economic reductionism. He follows a broader discipline in addressing power and power relations from an economic perspective (McGuigan, Moran, 2014).
