Investigations of development and competition between <em>Ephestia kuehniella</em> Zell. (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) and <em>Rhyzopertha dominica</em> (F.) (Coleoptera: Bostrychidae) laboratory conditions.

Abstract

In this study, development and competition of Ephestia kuehniella Zell.(Lep.: Pyralidae) and Rhyzoperta dominica F.(Col.:Bostrychidae) between them were studied in wheat medium when the two species reared separately or when both were introduced together during three generations at four different combinations. Experiments were carried out in a rearing chamber having 25 ± 1°C temperature and 65-70% relative humidity. No differences with respect to development were found between the two pests. Important relationship between generations and combinations were found. When the both pests reared separately and made a comparison between generations; Obtained adult number in the first generation was low level, but in the second and the third generation there was not important difference. In the fourth combination of R.dominica (first E.kuehniella later R.dominica) each generation showed different groups and the more generation number increased, the more adult number increased, and differences between them was found to be important. It was not found any differences between the combinations of the first generation of E.kuehniella and the first and the third generations of R. dominica. Differences between combinations were found important in the second, the third generations of E.kuehniella and the second generations of R.dominica.

Öz

Bu çalışmada Değirmen güvesi [Ephestia kuehniella Zell.(Lep.: Pyralidae)] ve Ekin kambur biti [Rhyzopertha dominica F.(Col.:Bostrychidae)] ayrı ayrı ve birlikte olmak üzere dört farklı kombinasyonda yumuşak buğday ortamında üç generasyon süresince gelişmeleri izlenerek aralarında herhangi bir rekabetin olup olmadığı araştırılmıştır. Denemeler 25 ± 1°C sıcaklık ve % 65-75 orantılı neme ayarlı iklim dolabında yürütülmüştür. Birlikte ve ayrı ayrı yetiştirilen bu iki zararlı arasında gelişme yönünde bir fark bulunamamıştır. Sadece generasyonlar ve kombinasyonlar arasındaki fark önemli olmuştur. Her iki zararlı tek tek ele alınıp generasyonlar arasında bir karşılaştırma  yapıldığında; 1.generasyonda elde edelin ergin sayıları düşük seviyede kalmış, diğer iki generasyonda önemli bir farklılık görülmemiştir. Sadece Ekin kambur biti'nin 4. kombinasyonunda (Önce Değirmen güvesi sonra Ekin kambur biti) her generasyon ayrı bir grup oluşturmuş, generasyon sayısı arttıkça elde edilen ergin sayıları artmış ve  aralarındaki farklılık önemli olmuştur. Değirmen güvesi'nın I., Ekin kambur biti'nın I. ve III. generasyonunda kombinasyonlar arasında bulunan fark önemli olmuştur.
