Determination of carboxylesterase E4 and FE4 types in Myzus persicae (Sulz.) (Hemiptera:Aphididae) populations collected from Turkey by electrophoresis
Abstract
The peach potato aphid, Myzus persicae (Sulz.) (Hemiptera: Aphididae), is a polyphagous pest, which is found in vegetable, horticultural and ornamental crop production systems in Turkey and throughout the world. Electrophoresis is the main technique for separating proteins and nucleic acids for a variety of purposes in most of the laboratories today. Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) is the preferred method for protein separations. There are positive correlation between insecticide resistance and carboxylesterase activity in M. persicae. One type of carboxylesterase E4 or FE4 activity is responsible for resistance in this aphid. During this study, different M. persicae populations that collected from Ankara, Antalya and Mersin vegetable green houses and fields were characterized using two different PAGE methods to determine the carboxylesterase E4 or FE4 types. The typical E4 band is found in Beypazarı and Karakeşli populations where as the others have FE4 band.
