INVESTIGATION OF CLINICAL SCORING IN DOGS WITH ATOPIC DERMATITIS, LEISHMANIASIS, AND DEMODICOSIS

This study investigates the application of dermatological clinical scoring in dogs with clinical demodicosis, canine visceral leishmaniasis (CVL), and atopic dermatitis (Ad), and its impact on disease prognosis. Twenty-six dogs of different breeds, ages, and genders (5 with demodicosis, 12 with CVL, and 9 with Ad) were evaluated. Accepted clinical scoring systems were used in each group, and routine evaluations included hematological and biochemical analyses, microscopic examination of skin scrapings, rapid tests, and cytological examinations. In dogs with Ad, the most intense lesions were observed in the axillary and abdominal regions, while lymphadenopathy and onychogryphosis were the most common findings in dogs with CVL. In dogs with demodicosis, the most severe lesions were found on the hind limbs and neck. This study concludes that veterinarians can use dermatological clinical scoring to objectively assess disease progression and response to treatment, thereby developing more effective treatment strategies.
