Current Trends and Sustainability Practices in Textile Waste Recycling

Öz

The textile industry is one of the sectors with the highest environmental impact due to its high water and energy consumption, chemical consumption, and waste generation. Clothing habits are changing under the influence of fashion trends, which causes the lifespan of clothes to shorten, consumption to increase and the amount of textile waste to increase. This accelerates the depletion of natural resources and creates waste management problems. This rapidly increasing consumption volume has made recycling practices and sustainability a priority. Textile recycling contributes to the conservation of natural resources by reducing raw material demand, reducing waste, and saving energy. Recycling is crucial for preventing resource waste, promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly production practices, reducing environmental pollution, and creating employment. This review provides information on the importance of recycling in the textile industry, the methods used, areas of application, technological developments, the advantages and limitations of recycling techniques, current trends in the industry, and future perspectives. Due to its environmental and economic benefits, the development and expansion of textile recycling stands out as a crucial prerequisite for achieving sustainable production and consumption goals.
