Beynin Gizemli Dünyasına Yeni Bir Işık: Ketojenik Diyetin Alzheimer Hastalığındaki Rolü

Öz

Ketojenik diyetin Alzheimer hastalığı üzerindeki etkilerini inceleyen bu derleme, ketojenik diyetin nörodejeneratif hastalıklar üzerindeki potansiyel faydalarını ve etki mekanizmalarını ele almaktadır. Alzheimer hastalığı, dünya çapında demansın en yaygın nedenidir ve yaşa bağlı olarak görülme riski artmaktadır. Ketojenik diyet, yüksek yağlı, düşük karbonhidratlı bir beslenme yaklaşımı ile vücudu ketozise sokarak alternatif enerji kaynakları oluşturur ve mitokondriyal fonksiyonları iyileştirir. Bu diyetteki metabolik değişikliklerin, amiloid-β birikimini azaltarak ve beyin-bağırsak eksenini düzenleyerek nöroprotektif etkiler sağladığı görülmektedir. Ayrıca, ketojenik diyetin antiinflamatuar etkileri ve beyin kaynaklı nörotrofik faktör ekspresyonunu artırması, Alzheimer hastalığının progresyonunu yavaşlatmada önemli rol oynamaktadır. Ancak, bu alanda daha fazla insan çalışmasına ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır.

A New Insight into the Mysterious World of the Brain: The Role of the Ketogenic Diet in Alzheimer's Disease

Öz

This review examines the effects of the ketogenic diet on Alzheimer's disease, highlighting the potential benefits and underlying mechanisms of this dietary approach in neurodegenerative disorders. Alzheimer's disease is the most prevalent cause of dementia globally, with its incidence increasing with age. The ketogenic diet, characterized by high fat and low carbohydrate intake, induces ketosis, thereby providing alternative energy sources and enhancing mitochondrial function. The metabolic alterations associated with this diet have been observed to confer neuroprotective effects by reducing amyloid-β accumulation and modulating the gut-brain axis. Furthermore, the anti-inflammatory properties of the ketogenic diet and the upregulation of brain-derived neurotrophic factor expression are crucial in decelerating the progression of Alzheimer's disease. Nevertheless, further human studies are imperative to substantiate these findings.
