An Evaluation Study Based on a Trauma-Informed Approach: The Case of ŞÖNİM

Öz

Purpose: Trauma experiences can impact women's lives in multiple ways, negatively impacting their physical, psychological, and social well-being. A trauma-informed social work approach, by fostering a sense of trust and security, supporting empowerment and collaboration, helps women regain control of their lives, thus playing a crucial role in coping with the negative consequences of trauma. This study aimed to determine the capacity of ŞÖNİM (Violence Prevention and Monitoring Center) professionals affiliated with the Ministry of Family and Social Services to implement a trauma-informed approach.
Method: Designed with a quantitative research method, the study was conducted with 91 professionals working at 29 ŞÖNİM organizations. Data were collected using an online interview method, and the Socio-Demographic Information Form and the Trauma-Informed Care Scale, adapted into Turkish by Tekin and Bayar (2023), were used to obtain the data.
Results: No significant differences were observed between the participants' total scale scores based on their socio-demographic characteristics. The maximum total score obtained from the scale within the scope of the research is 70, and the total score average is 59.
Conclusions: It is recommended that a holistic approach be taken to increase the capacity of institutions and personnel working in the field of violence against women in terms of a trauma-informed approach.

Travma Bilgili Yaklaşıma Dayalı Bir Değerlendirme Çalışması: ŞÖNİM Örneği

Öz

Amaç: Travma deneyimleri, kadınların yaşamlarını çok yönlü biçimde etkileyerek fiziksel, ruhsal ve toplumsal iyi oluşları üzerinde olumsuz etkilere yol açabilmektedir. Travma bilgisine dayalı sosyal hizmet anlayışı ise güven ve güvenlik duygusunu öne çıkararak, güçlenmeyi ve iş birliğini destekleyerek kadınların yaşamları üzerinde yeniden söz sahibi olabilmelerine katkı sunmakta; böylece travmanın yol açtığı olumsuzluklarla başa çıkmada önemli bir işlev üstlenmektedir. Bu çalışma, Aile ve Sosyal Hizmetler Bakanlığı’na bağlı ŞÖNİM (Şiddet Önleme ve İzleme Merkezi) meslek elemanlarının travma bilgili yaklaşım ile ilgili kapasitelerini belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır.
Yöntem: Nicel araştırma yöntemi le tasarlanan çalışma 29 ŞÖNİM kuruluşunda çalışan 91 meslek elemanı ile yürütülmüştür. Araştırmada veriler çevrim içi görüşme yöntemi kullanılarak toplanmış, verilerin elde edilmesinde Sosyo-Demografik Bilgi Formu, Tekin ve Bayar (2023) tarafından Türkçe’ye uyarlanan Travma Bilgili Bakım Ölçeği kullanılmıştır.
Bulgular: Katılımcıların sosyo-demografik özelliklerine göre Ölçek toplam puanından aldıkları puanlar arasında anlamlı bir farklılık görülmemiştir. Araştırma kapsamında Ölçeğin toplam puanından en çok 70 puan alınmış ve toplam puan ortalaması 59’dur.
Sonuç: Bütüncül bir yaklaşım ile kadına yönelik şiddet alanında çalışan kurumların ve personelin travma bilgili yaklaşım konusunda kapasitelerinin artırılması önerilmiştir.
