Bu makale, Frer’in ve Tahsildar’ın Hikâyeleri’ni; Chaucer’ın, ufkta yavaş yavaş belirmekte olan, insanın toplumsal ve varoluşsal konumlarını kökünden değiştirecek olan Merkantilizmin gelişini haber veren sosyo-ekonomik dönüşümün yorumu olarak tartışmaktadır.
