EXILE TRAVELS OF EX-SULTAN VAHIDEDDIN UNDER BRITISH PROTECTION
Abstract
After National Struggle, Sultan Vahideddin had felt that his life was in danger and
took refuge in British. British who accepted his asylum request, had taken him to Malta at
first. But he couldn’t stay a lot here and went to Mecca by invitation of King of Hejaz. In the
meantime although British had contemplated to exploit his title of caliph, they didn’t seriously
attempt relevant to this issue. After Mecca, the Last Sultan who couldn’t acclimatize weather
of Hejaz, gone to San Remo where he resided till his death. His travel expenses became a big
problem for British. Because laws and regulations of British were complex, the issue that is
to which departments meet expenses, deadlocked in fact. Vahideddin had taken refuge in
British because British Empire had the most muslim population in the world, nevertheless
it had diffuculty in cover his travel and entertainment expenses. In the his transition process
from Hejaz to San Remo, British disconnected with him.
