The Yemen, located in the south of Arabian Peninsula, was one of the most important
attributed to soil since Yemen was included in the Ottoman state borders. Even if the Ottoman
Administration firstly started during the time of Sultan Selim, the real domination began
with Hadım Suleyman Pasha. The Ottoman Administration, which withdrew from the region
after the dominance continued for a while, reopen with Vice Tevfik Pasha in 1849. When this
operation, attempted with forces collected from the Egypt and Hijaz, was inconclusive, an
order could not be established in the region until the governor of Ahmet Muhtar Pasha. The
main event that complicated the facility of administration was often experienced rebellions.
In this complicated period of Yemen, after the British got permission to established coal yard
in Aden, they settled in Aden and with the opening of Suez Canal, they further increased
the population. After a while, not only British but also other great powers began to settle
around the Red Sea. However, Ahmet Muhtar Pasha, with the appointed by the governor,
had embarked on a major military operation. As a successful result of this movement, Ahmet
Muhtar Pasha had attempted on a new organization in military and civilian field. In this
study, it will mention on the importance of Yemen and the governorship of Ahmet Muhtar
Pasha. Therefore, it will contribute to accumulation of knowledge about the existence of
Ottoman Empire in Yemen and the activities in this region.
