The visit of Rıza Pehlevi to Turkeyis an important diplomatic case where convergence
efforts of Turkey and Iran, endeavoring to exist as independent states in the interwar period,
became concrete. In this period when the modernization processes developed in Turkey
and Iran, and stability seeking in Middle East Region were determinative, thewills of newly
established regimes on overcoming the tensions originating from past ensured that the issues
in mutual relationships were overcome, thus long visit of Rıza Pehlevi, which lasted for 27
days, became possible.
While trying to explain the meaning of this visit, it is especially necessary to address
the changing equilibriums in Europe, the policies pursued by England in accordance with its
interests in Middle East region and the modernization processes carried out in two countries
in the political environment heading for 2nd World War. The primary objective of the study
is to put the meanings represented by the visit into this general framework.
