Correlation Analysis Between Yield and Yield Components of Some Black Cumin (Nigella Sativa L.) Seed Genotypes

Abstract

Many various studies have been conducted on seed yield and other yield standards, quality and medical properties of black cumin plant. However, the number of studies regarding the correlation between yield and yield components to improve plant production is limited. Therefore, a correlation analysis was performed to evaluate the relation between the yield and some yield components of black cumin genotypes with different origins at advanced yield stage and grown under ecological conditions in Ankara in accordance with the principles of organic agriculture. This study was performed in summer, in the year of 2019-2020 with three repetitions. A total of 31 black cumin genotypes with different origins at advanced yield stage including Çameli registered cultivar were utilized for the experiments. Our research determined the correlation values between growing time, plant height, flowering time, numbers of branches, yield of the seeds, emergence time, numbers of seeds in capsules, height of first capsule, fixed oil yield, numbers of capsules, fixed oil ratio and thousand-seed weight. Based on the results it was confirmed that fixed oil yield (0,964**), number of branches (0,298**), number of capsules (0,313**), thousand-seed weight (0,192**), number of seeds in capsules (0,382**) have positive and significant effects; and growing time (-0, 151*) has negative and significant effects on seed yield. Emergence time (-0,239**) and thousand-seed weight (-0,144*) have negative and significant effects; oil yield (0,297**) has positive and significant effects on fixed oil ratio. It also demonstrated that the yield and the fixed oil ratio of black cumin will be increased by improving the positive and significant effects of the mentioned variables on seed yield and fixed oil ratio, as the other parameters are held constant. As a result, this study suggests that it is crucial to consider the traits mentioned in breeding studies.
