Six Sigma Implementation Map of Turkey
Öz
In this study geographical distribution of Six Sigma applications in Turkey is investigated. More than 1000 companies and organizations are examined to determine whether they implement Six Sigma or not, and ultimately 265 companies that implement Six Sigma are determined. Companies are recorded and listed according to their name, the city where they are located, the industry that they belong to, and Six Sigma and other quality management programs that they implement. In accordance with these findings, a geographical distribution map of Six Sigma applications for Turkey is created with the use of image processing techniques. In order to achieve this, a digital binary image for map of Turkey is created though image recognition technique. The binary map is then colored with different brightness levels through RGB (red-green-blue) color coding system in accordance with the implementation density of different cities. By this way, the statistical facts about Six Sigma applications are determined and converted into an implementation map that can be easily interpreted. In addition, the distribution of the most industrialized cities and quality management consulting companies within Turkey are determined and are linked to Six Sigma applications. Finally, Six Sigma application levels among different industries are compared.
