Relationship between Gender and Nurses’ Job Satisfaction and Quality of Life: A Mixed Methods Study
Öz
Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between gender and nurses’ job satisfaction and quality of life.
Method: A mixed methods approach combining quantitative and qualitative research methods was employed in the study. The quantitative sample consisted of 165 nurses, while the qualitative sample included 20 nurses. Data were collected using a personal information form, the Job Satisfaction Scale, and the Quality of Work Life Scale. Descriptive statistical methods and correlation analysis were used for the quantitative data analysis, while thematic analysis was performed for the qualitative data analysis.
Results: The mean age of the participating nurses was 28.3 ± 4.4 years. Most of the nurses indicated that they had entered the profession by choice, and a significant proportion had been working in the institution for between one and five years. Quantitative analyses revealed a significant positive relationship between job satisfaction and quality of life, as well as a significant negative relationship between burnout and compassion fatigue, both of which were associated with quality of life (p < 0.05). The analysis of qualitative data identified three themes: job satisfaction, quality of life, and suggestions.
Conclusion: The findings revealed a strong relationship between nurses’ job satisfaction and quality of life.
