Today, people spend a significant part of their
day watching television and surfing the internet. Movies broadcasted on television and in other
media have the power to influence the audience. Especially youngsters and
children try to take their protagonists in the movies and series they watch as
role models and act like them. Movies and TV series are also very important in
terms of providing the opportunity to reach a large audience in a short time. Therefore,
films are effective tools that can be used to transfer some values. The purpose
of this study is to examine the values in educational themed Turkish films. The
main reason behinf the selection of educational themed films, was effective the
messages that these films tried to convey were related to education and the
educational process. Mixed method was used in the research. The sample group
consists of eight educational themed Turkish films. In the selection of the
films constituting the sample, maximum variation
sampling was used. Document analysis method was used for data collection
and descriptive analysis was used for data analysis. The values in the films
are presented in tables and the value expressions are exemplified by direct
quotations. As a result of the research, it has been concluded that more
highlighted values in films are the values of love, helpfulness, respect,
solidarity and diligence. It was found that all of the films examined included
elements that improve the values of diligence, solidarity, sensibility,
respect, love, responsibility and helpfulness. In addition, as a result of the
research, it has been found out that teachers, who are the main characters in
all films, have positive character traits. In the last stage, the results of
the research were compared with the results of similar studies in the
literature.
