Color Matching Ability of Four Different Monochromatic Universal Resin Composites: A Spectrophotometric Analysis
Öz
Introduction
This study aimed to assess the color-matching ability of four different monochromatic universal resin composites.
Materials and Methods
The composite resins evaluated in the study were: G1: Omnichroma (Tokuyama Dental); G2: Vittra Unique (FGM); G3: Zenchroma (President Dental); and G4: Essentia Universal (GC). To assess the color-matching ability of each composite resin, five different shades of acrylic central incisor teeth (B1, A2, C2, A3.5, D3) were selected and verified according to the Vita Classical Shade Guide to ensure the accuracy of the acrylic tooth color. Each group consisted of twenty-five samples (N=100) prepared accordingly. Round cavities (1.5 mm × 1.5 mm) were prepared on the mid-buccal surfaces of the acrylic incisors. Composite resins were placed in the prepared cavities and polymerized with a LED light for 20 seconds. Color measurements were taken in daylight against a gray background using a spectrophotometer, and mean L*a*b* differences were expressed as ΔE values (threshold value=3.3). Data were analyzed with ANOVA and Tukey’s post-hoc test (p<0.05).
Results
In the B1 tooth shade, Omnichroma, Zenchroma, and Essentia Universal showed significant color differences (p<0.05). Omnichroma achieved the best match for A2, while Zenchroma showed superior performance for C2 (ΔE = 1.33, p<0.05). In A3.5, all materials displayed perceptible differences, with Essentia Universal performing best (ΔE=4.05). For D3, both Zenchroma and Essentia Universal exhibited superior color-matching abilities (p<0.05).
Conclusion
Although designed to match all Vita shades, the color compatibility of monochromatic universal composites varied by brand and tooth shade.
