BIOMECHANICAL CHANGES SEEN IN DIABETIC NEUROPATHY

Öz

Diabetic peripheral neuropathy is
an important and long-term complication of diabetes. Prolonged exposure to high
blood glucose levels in diabetic subjects, causes damage to the peripheral
nerves. Due to nerve damage in diabetic neuropathy decreased foot sensation and
muscle weakness occurs and as a result; gait and balance are affected.
Abnormalities in gait and balance  increases risk of fall incidence. The increase
in awareness and suitable approaches to the diabetic peripheral neuropathy has
led to reduced morbidity and substantial health care cost.

Diyabetik Nöropatide görülen biyomekanik değişiklikler

Öz

Diyabetik periferal nöropati, diyabetin
uzun dönem ve önemli bir komplikasyonudur. Dyabetli olgularda yüksek glukoz
düzeyine uzun süreli maruz kalınması, periferal sinirlerin hasarlanmasına sebep
olur. Diyabetik nöropatide görülen sinir hasarları ile ayak duyusu azalması ve
kas zayıflığı ortaya çıkar ve sonuç olarak yürüyüş ile denge etkilenir. Yürüyüş
ve dengedeki bozulmalar düşme riski insidansını arttırır. Farkındalığın artması
ve diyabetik nöropatiye uygun yaklaşımların ortaya konması, morbiditenin ve
yüksek düzeydeki sağlık giderlerinin azaltılmasını sağlar.
