FACTORS AFFECTING IDIOLECT

Abstract

When the starting point of sociolinguistic studies is accepted as Saussure’s difference between Langue and Parole, various factors to affect sociability of Langue tochange into individuality of Parole appear. Starting from Langue and Parole, thispaper aims to focus on various factors affecting idiolect. Factors such as mentalassociations, socio-economic conditions or education level are left out. Since factors such as culture, language or social context, the tendency to use the languagethought to be more “prestigious”, gender and age, audience design and topic ofconversation can be thought to be broader, they form the focus of this paper. Thegoal of this paper is to explain the possible effects of these factors on idiolects viaexamples
