Evaluation of Anatomy Education in Health-Related Programs in Vocational Colleges
Öz
Aim: Anatomy is one of the core courses of health sciences education and plays an important role in providing students with professional skills. This study aims to determine the opinions of students studying in health programs towards anatomy education and to examine the level of contribution of anatomy teaching to professional development and practical training opportunities. Materials and Methods: The study was based on survey data from 527 students. The questionnaire consisted of questions about the adequacy of anatomy course hours, the contribution of anatomy education to professional life, anatomy laboratory training, cadaver use, and organ donation. Descriptive analyses were applied to the data and the results of the analysis are given as median, minimum (min), and maximum (max). Results: The findings of the study revealed that students thought that anatomy education contributed significantly to their professional development, but anatomy education hours were insufficient in some departments and they did not have enough access to anatomy laboratory training. In addition, the rate of students stating that cadaveric training is not provided is quite high. Students’ attitudes toward organ and cadaver donation show variation across programs. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that anatomy education holds a significant place in health programs, but practical training opportunities are inadequate. It emphasizes that students need greater access to anatomy laboratories and cadaver training to improve their academic success.
