BOTANICAL RESEARCHES IN 16TH CENTURY OTTOMAN CIVILIZATION

Öz

Travelers from Middle Europe had started journeys to know about Ottoman Civilization from 16th century. Within their journey, these nature enthusiast travelers identiŞ ed, named and registered the plants and the animals in their travelogues. Th e Ş rst person who made botanical researches was Pierre Belon , then Ogier Ghiselin de Busbecq , Willem Quackelbeen , Hans Dernschwam , Leonhart Rauwolff came after him respectively. Except foreign researchers, Ebusuud Efendi, who was grand mufti in the period of Suleiman the MagniŞ cent, also made researches on garden plants. Th ese people were the Ş rst researchers on botanical researches and their books and works were accepted as the Ş rst fl oristic works in the Ottoman Civilization

16. YÜZYIL OSMANLI DEVLETİ’NDE BOTANİK ARAŞTIRMALARI

Öz

16. yüzyıl’dan itibaren Orta Avrupa’daki gezginler Osmanlı Uygarlığı’nı tanımak için seyahatlere başlamışlardır. Doğa meraklısı gezginler bu seyahatleri esnasında gördükleri bitkileri, hayvanları seyahatnamelerine tanımlamışlar, adlandırmışlar ve kayıt altına almışlardır. 16. yy botanik araştırmalarını gerçekleştiren ilk kişi Pierre Belon olup, sırasıyla diğerleri Ogier Ghiselin de Busbecq , Willem Quackelbeen , Hans Dernschwam (14941568), Leonhart Rauwolff adlı kişilerdir. Bu yabancı araştırmacılar dışında Kanuni Sultan Süleyman döneminde baş müftü olan Ebusuud Efendi de bahçe bitkileri üzerinde araştırmalar yapmıştır. Bu kişiler; Osmanlı Devleti’nde botanik araştırmalarını yapan ilk araştırmacılar ve eserleri de ilk fl oristik çalışmalar olarak kabul edilmektedir
