Öz

Spinoza speaks two attributes of substance we may know: Thought and Extension. Every attribute belonging to substance must be considered within itself. One is not the cause of the other. Also, if one thing can destroy the other, then their nature is contrary to each other, in other words it is not possible the things to be found in the same subject. Because there is nothing in the essence of being that can destroy itself. Whether under the influence of thought or under the influence of extension, nothing can be destroyed unless there is an external cause. If there is nothing to destroy it in body, and if the mind is doing nothing but affirmation of the body, where does man’s suicide ideation originate from? In this context, the main purpose of this study will be addressing suicide in accordance with Spinoza’s views

Spinoza, cevherin bizim bilebildiğimiz iki sıfatından söz eder: Düşünce ve uzam. Cevherin özüne ait her sıfat kendi içinde ele alınmalıdır. Biri diğerinin nedeni değildir. Ayrıca, şeylerin biri diğerini yok edebiliyorsa bunların doğaları birbirlerine aykırıdır, yani aynı öznede bulunmaları mümkün değildir. Çünkü varlığın özünde kendisini yok edebilecek herhangi bir şey bulunamaz. İster düşünce sıfatı altında, ister uzam sıfatı altında olsun hiçbir şey dış bir neden olmadıkça yok edilemez. Bedende onu yok edecek bir şey yoksa ve zihin bedenin olumlamasından başka bir şey yapmıyorsa insandaki intihar düşüncesi nereden kaynaklanmaktadır? Bu bağlamda çalışmanın temel amacı, intihar olayını Spinoza’nın görüşleri doğrultusunda ele almak olacaktır
