In this work,
tribological performance of pure poly-tetra-fluoro-ethylene (PTFE), 25%bronze
filled PTFE composite and 40%bronze filled PTFE composite sliding against
stainless steel under dry sliding environment were studied. A pin-on-disc tribometer
is used for evaluating the friction and wear behavior of PTFE polymer and its
composites. The tribological tests were conducted at applied loads of 50N,
100N, and 150N and at sliding speeds of 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 m/s. The results show
that the PTFE+40wt.% bronze composite is the best tribological behavior. As a
result of study, the coefficient of friction and specific wear rate of PTFE
composite were reduced by the addition of bronze filler. Finally, an optical
microscope was used to examine the wear mechanism of pure PTFE and PTFE
composites with bronze filler.
