Öz

Colonialism is a type of domination in which political, racist, economic and cultural issues are imposed on the colonized groups through the medium of exploitation, degradation and torture. For centuries Western nations, their supreme position and imperial power, exploited the colonized economically and culturally by destroying their traditions and culture. The term ‘postcolonial’ was originally used by the historians to describe the period after colonization. This study focuses on J. M. Coetzee, one of the pioneers of South African literature, and his two novels Waiting for the Barbarians (1980) and Life and Times of Michael K (1983) as post-colonial literary texts

Öz

Sömürgecilik, sömüren bir grubun sömürülen üzerinde istismar, yıkım, eziyet ve şiddet kullanarak, politik, ırkçı, ekonomik, kültürel açılardan hâkimiyet ve egemenlik sağlamasıdır. Yüz yıllar boyu Batılı devletler, ekonomik ve kültürel baskı kullanarak siyahî yerli halkı sömürmüşler ve kendi tahakküm ve egemenliklerini kullanarak onların haklarını, gelenek ve göreneklerini hiçe saymışlardır. ‘Sömürgecilik sonrası dönem’ terimi ise tarihçiler tarafından bu dönemden sonra ortaya çıkan süreci tanımlamak amacı ile kullanılmıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, eserlerinde sözkonusu dönemi anlatan ve Güney Afrika’ nın en önemli yazarlarından biri olan J. M. Coetzee’nin Barbarları Beklerken ve Michael K. Yaşamı ve Yaşadığı Dönem adlı romanlarını Sömürgecilik Sonrası Edebiyat kapsamında incelemektir
