Spatial Quality in Adaptive Re-Use Museums: A Comparative Study of the Red Dot Design Museum and the London Design Museum
Öz
The aim of this study is to present an interpretative analysis of historical structures that have lost their original function and have been reconstructed as museums within the framework of conservation interventions. The study is based on a comparative examination of the Red Dot Design Museum in Germany, a former industrial structure adapted for social and cultural tourism, and the London Design Museum, which previously housed the Commonwealth Institute. In functional transformation processes, maintaining the structural and spatial integrity of existing buildings plays a critical role in ensuring sustainable use. In this context, the production of qualified and habitable spaces depends on accurately analyzing contemporary requirements and integrating them appropriately into the transformation process. Within the study, interior space solutions developed in relation to the conservation culture of the structures were evaluated based on personal experiences obtained through direct engagement with these spaces. Ultimately, the study seeks to support the development of awareness regarding the preservation and continuity of cultural heritage.
