Impact of an 8-Week Auxiliary Equipment-Based Training Program on Dribbling, Passing, and Shooting Skills in Youth Basketball Athletes
Öz
This study investigated the effects of auxiliary training equipment (dribbling goggles, shooting gloves, and resistance bands) on fundamental basketball skills in licensed youth players aged 10–14 years. The research was conducted using a single-group pre-test–post-test experimental design, including 32 athletes actively competing in local basketball leagues. Auxiliary equipment was integrated into regular training sessions over an eight-week period. Skill performance was assessed using the Johnson Basketball Test Battery, while height, body weight, body mass index, and body fat percentage were measured using a Tanita 300 analyzer. Pre-test and post-test scores were compared using paired samples t-tests, and effect sizes were calculated with Cohen’s d. In addition, Random Forest and K-means clustering analyses were applied to examine individual patterns of performance development. The results revealed a significant and large improvement in shooting performance (p = 0.003, d = 0.89) and a moderate improvement in passing skills (p = 0.012, d = 0.57). Changes in dribbling performance were not statistically significant (p = 0.152). Random Forest analysis identified baseline shooting performance and body mass index as the most influential predictors of performance improvement. Overall, the findings indicate that auxiliary equipment–supported training is particularly effective for enhancing shooting and passing skills in youth basketball players. Moreover, the combined use of traditional skill assessments and machine learning–based analyses provides a valuable framework for capturing individual differences in training responses and supporting more personalized approaches to skill development.
