Effects of Structured Movement Training Program on Motor Skills in Children with Mild Intellectual Disabilities
Öz
We examined the impact of an eight-week structured movement training program on the motor skills of children with mild intellectual disabilities (MID). A total of 40 students (aged 10–12) attending special education classes in the Nizip district of Gaziantep participated in the research. Participants were randomly assigned to experimental (n = 20) and control (n = 20) groups. The experimental group underwent a structured movement training program three days a week for eight weeks, whereas the control group continued their routine physical education classes. Data regarding motor performance were collected via tests such as slalom run, throw and catch, and an agility course. The obtained data were analyzed statistically, revealing significant improvements in the motor skills of the experimental group. Significant gains were observed specifically in agility, strength, coordination, and reaction time. In contrast, improvements in the control group were limited. In conclusion, structured movement training programs were demonstrated to be an effective method for enhancing motor skills in children with mild intellectual disabilities.
