Current Medical Approaches to the Termination of Unwanted Pregnancies in Dogs
Öz
Throughout the years, different methods have been used to terminate unwanted pregnancies of dogs which have been often
encountered. These methods may sterilize these aminals as well as after the pegnancy is terminated these methods may also allow
dogs to have an oppurtunity to get pregnant again. Pet owners who do not want their dogs to be sterilized, different pharmacological
agents can be preferred to terminate the unwanted pregnancy. These chemical substances are applied at different terms of the
pregnancy through different tecniques. In recent years, the most commonly used pharmacological agents are prostaglandins, ergot
alkaloids, Mifepristone, Aglepristone, GnRH Agonists and GnRH Antagonists. These edications can be used by themselves , but
they are more successfull when they are used in combination with each other. The endocrinology of dogs is not same in the first and
second half-term of pregnancy. For this reason, the applications to terminate unwanted pregnancies in the first and second half-term
of pregnancies are different from each other.
