Radiological Evaluation of Epiphyseal Plate Closure Process of Tibiotarsus in Japanese Quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica)
Öz
In this study; ıt was aimed to investigate the epiphyseal plate closure period of tibiotarsus using radiography technique in Japanese quails, to distinguish epiphyseal plaque closure time between female and male quails and to investigate the effect of physeal closure time in gender determination. During the first week of this study, 20 Japanese quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) were used at the age of one day. Since the sex could not be determined on the age of first week, the radiologic shots were performed all of the chicks. When the quail reached the age of one week, their sex was determined by considering the color difference in the chest area. All of 12 quail were divided into two groups as male (n = 6) and female (n = 6). Periodic radiographs of quails were performed daily and it was performed one day in a per week. Finaly, this study was being maintained for 7 weeks. The right tibiotarsus was performed in both positions as anteroposterior (A / P) and mediolateral (M / L), using 2.00 mAS and 50 KW doses at 20 cm film-focus distance. Length, medullar canal, and diameters of extremities were measured by the same person on digital radiological images. As a result of this study; It was determined that the entire group of male quails formed earlier than the 50% of the subjects in the group of female quails completed at 6 weeks of epiphyseal plaque closure. In sex determination, epiphyseal plaque has come to the conclusion that the period of closure is not determinant. Distal epiphyseal plates gave the impression that the closing of the proximal epiphyseal plates at the same time had equal effects on grow.
