A Holistic Care Approach: The Adaptability of the Buurtzorg Model to the Turkish Health Care System
Öz
The Buurtzorg model, originating in the Netherlands, represents a transformative approach to home care through self-managing nursing teams, professional autonomy, holistic person-centered integration, and community network embedding. This conceptual review examines its core principles and empirical outcomes reduced care hours, fewer hospital admissions, higher satisfaction, and cost efficiencies while assessing transferability to Turkey amid rapid population ageing, nuclear family shifts, and fragmented home health services. Drawing on bureaucratic theory, integrated care frameworks, and community health perspectives, the paper proposes localised adaptations: autonomous neighbourhood teams anchored in primary care, primary-nurse continuity, intentional social-network activation, and digital bureaucracy reduction. Pilots respecting Turkey’s regulatory and cultural context could enhance equity, efficiency, and dignified ageing in place, positioning the country to evolve its own resilient community-care model.
