Hastanede Yatan 3–6 Yaş Çocukların Kitap Etkileşim Davranışları ve Psikososyal İyi Oluş: Gözlemsel Bir Durum Çalışması

Öz

Bu araştırma, İstanbul'da bir çocuk servisinde hastanede yatan 3–6 yaş arası çocukların bire bir okuma oturumları sırasında sergiledikleri kitap etkileşim davranışlarını incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Betimsel durum çalışması deseninde yürütülen araştırmaya 20 çocuk katılmıştır. Veriler, Kitap Etkileşim Davranışları Gözlem Formu ve araştırmacı saha notları aracılığıyla toplanmıştır. Oturumlar 15–20 dakika sürmüş; hastanenin çocuk kütüphanesi köşesinde ya da hasta yatağı başında gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bulgular; ağrı, yorgunluk ve tıbbi kaygının çocukların kitap etkileşimini olumsuz etkilediğini, kukla ve çizim etkinliklerinin etkileşimi artırdığını, evde düzenli kitap okuma alışkanlığı olan çocukların daha güçlü etkileşim sergilediğini ortaya koymaktadır. Etkileşim puanlarının 5–6 yaş grubunda anlamlı düzeyde daha yüksek olduğu (p<0,05) ve dikkat süresi ile genel etkileşim arasında güçlü pozitif yönlü bir ilişki bulunduğu (r=0,72, p<0,001) saptanmıştır. Araştırma bulguları, kitap okuma etkinliklerinin çocukların gelişim düzeyi, sağlık durumu ve sosyal çevresi dikkate alınarak uyarlanması gerektiğini ortaya koymakta; aile katılımı ve terapötik araçlar aracılığıyla psikososyal iyi oluş ile çocuk refahının desteklenmesinde kitap temelli uygulamaların önemli bir rol oynadığını vurgulamaktadır.

Book Interaction Behaviors and Psychosocial Well-Being in Hospitalized Children Aged 3–6: An Observational Case Study

Öz

This study explores book interaction behaviors among hospitalized children aged 3–6 during one-on-one reading sessions in a pediatric ward in Istanbul. Using a descriptive case study design, data were gathered from 20 children through the Book Interaction Behaviors Observation Form and researcher field notes. Sessions lasted 15–20 minutes and took place either in the hospital's children's library corner or at bedside. Findings indicated that pain, fatigue, and medical anxiety negatively affected children's book interaction; puppet and drawing activities enhanced engagement; and children with regular home reading habits demonstrated stronger interaction patterns. Interaction scores were significantly higher in the 5–6 age group (p < .05), and a strong positive correlation was found between attention span and overall interaction (r = .72, p < .001). The findings underscore the need to adapt book-reading activities to children's developmental stage, health condition, and social environment, highlighting the role of book-based practices in promoting psychosocial well-being and child welfare through family involvement and therapeutic tools.
