Determining of General Profile of Aquarium Facilities in Istanbul’s European Side
Abstract
In this study it was aimed that to exhibit the general profile of aquarium sectors in accordance with their commercial activities, problems and requests, in European side of Istanbul Province. There are 134 stores in the region, European side of Istanbul Province, according to the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce. 65 stores either have extracurricular activities or not active. Although the active aquarium stores number are 69, survey was done with 52 out of them and then analyzed. According to the survey that conducted in stores; 48% of managers or employees are in 25-35 old range, 66% of them graduated from secondary school and the oldest store started to work in 1953, on the other side the latest was determined as 2014. When the periodic intensity of work load was taken into account that the increase of sales was observed in winter by 72%. Analyzes show that 52% of stores supplied their goods from wholesalers, while 24% them supplied both from wholesalers and by own productions. When we look at the expenses of stores, the biggest expense is electricity by 42%, it has been followed by rental costs with around 40%. As a result of this research, the challenges of aquarium stores and recommended solutions are given in details. Eliminating the legal gaps is very important to get rid of problems and make progress in sector, furthermore working with academia and official organizations will bring about great benefits.
