Traditional Life Terms and Cultural Landscape Assessment of Antalya Kumluca

Nomadic communities have played an important role in the history of culture. These communities, which have established cultural bridges among different civilizations of the pasta re the most substantial expression of cultural landscape, environment and human relations.
Kumluca district of Antalya is an important geographical area in this respect. Kumluca and its surroundings have been located in settlement areas of many civilizations since ancient times. Since the beginning of the 13th century, present settlement areas have been formed by migration of the Yörüks (Turkish nomads in Anatolian region) and establishing a permanent settlement in this area. The Kumluca District has offered proper geographical and climatic conditions which are necessary for the survival of the nomadic tribes that have migrated here to continue their lives. Yörüks prefer to spend winter months in more mild coastal areas, and summer in higher elevations for cooler habitats. In the guidance of the information that they gained from their natural environment has formed their traditional culture. Yörükler has shaped their survival according to the location and conditions of the region where they live, thus they developed experiences related to nature such as tracking animal and plant movements. In this manner, they have formed their local nomenclature, folkloric features and lifestyle by combining continuing knowledge from ancient generations.
In this study Kumluca's cultural landscape and traditional lifestyle relationship were examined together with the help of structured interviews and individual experiences. Structured interviews were conducted with 15 people aged 65 years and over in order to obtain information on traditional life in the past. During these interviews, voice recordings were taken with permission from the speaker. The interviewees were asked to make detailed descriptions of the regions they lived in order to be able to do better evaluations and analyzes.
111 terms related to the traditional life culture of the region were recorded together with their meanings during this study. In addition, the relationship of the people living in the region between human beings, animals, and plants were evaluated. With the help of the obtained findings from this study, it was aimed to preserve the traditional information, to constitute a compilation about its transfer to future generations and also to evaluate the traditional life of this region in terms of the cultural landscape.
