Ambrosia beetles (Coleoptera: Scolytidae) species and their damage ratios in Kiwi orchards of Ordu Province, Turkey

This study was carried out to determine the ambrosia beetle species causing harm to the kiwifruit trees and the damage ratios caused by them in the Ordu province in 2010. The study was conducted in the orchards from 2 villages in the vicinity of the Ordu city center, 4 villages of the Ulubey district and 1 village of the Kabadüz district. In order to determine the damage ratios 371 kiwifruit trees were checked. To determine the harmful ambrosia beetle species, infected plant parts from kiwifruit trees were transferred to the laboratory, after culturing and smashing of plant parts obtained beetle species were prepared for identification. Identification of the ambrosia beetle species were performed. Two scolytid species [Xyleborus dispar (Fabricius, 1792) and Xylosandrus germanus (Blandford, 1894)] were determined from kiwifruit orchards of Ordu province. As a result of the studies carried out in 7 different orchards in Ordu province, the infected tree ratios were changed between 9 % and 40 %. The average infection ratio was found 18.5%. Despite the presence of X. germanus in all orchards, X. dispar was found in only 4 orchards. Therefore, it was observed that X .germanus is more common than X. dispar in the kiwifruit orchards of Ordu province.
