The Effect of Boric Acid on Blood Chemistry in Rabbits

Öz

This study was carried out to investigate the influence of boric acid (BA) on blood chemistry in rabbits.Forty, 16 weeks old, New Zealand rabbits were assigned to 4 groups consisting of 10 rabbits in each group. Thegroups received the following treatment: group 1: control group without treatment, group 2: 31.25 mg /kg, group 3: 62.5mg/kg and group 4: 125 mg/kg (bw./day) boric acid (HBO ) was administered with drinking water for 5 weeks. At theend of the experiment, serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), gamma glutamyltranspeptidase (GGT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and creatine kinase (CK) activities,glucose, total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, triglyceride, total protein, albumin, globulin, urea, creatinine, calcium (Ca),inorganic phosphorus (Pi), magnesium (Mg), sodium (Na), potassium (K), iron (Fe), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), manganese(Mn), selenium (Se), chromium (Cr) and boron (B) levels were determined. Alkaline phosphatase enzyme activity(P<0.001) and Pi concentrations (P<0.001) in serum in all of the BA groups, Zn (P<0.05) and B (P<0.001)concentrations in 62.5 and 125 mg/kg (bw.) BA given groups were significantly higher. Other blood parameters werenot affected by BA. As a result, 31.25, 62.5 and 125 mg/kg (bw/day) boric acid increased serum ALP enzyme activity,Pi, Zn and B concentrations related to bone metabolism, but no effect on other enzymes and metabolites have beenidentified, therefore, further studies with different doses and different forms of B may be valuable in rabbits.

Tavşanlarda Borik Asidin Kan Kimyasına Etkisi

Öz

Bu çalışmada, tavşanlarda borik asidin (BA) bazı kan parametrelerine etkisinin araştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Kırkadet 16 haftalık Yeni Zelanda tavşanı, her biri 10 adetten oluşan 4 gruba ayrılmıştır. Birinci grup kontrol grubunu oluşturmuştur. İkinci gruba 31.25 mg /kg, 3. gruba 62.5 mg/kg ve 4. gruba 125 mg/kg (canlı ağırlık, gün) borik asit (HBO ) içme suyuna katılarak 5 hafta süresince verilmiştir. Denemenin sonunda hayvanların serumlarında aspartat aminotransferaz (AST), alanin aminotransferaz (ALT), gamma glutamil transpeptidaz (GGT), alkali fosfataz (ALP), laktatdehidrogenaz (LDH) ve kreatin kinaz (CK) aktiviteleri ile glikoz, total kolesterol, HDL-kolesterol, trigliserid, total protein,albumin, globulin, üre, kreatinin, kalsiyum (Ca), inorganik fosfor (iP), magnezyum (Mg), sodyum (Na), potasyum (K),demir (Fe), bakır (Cu), çinko (Zn), manganez (Mn), selenyum (Se), krom (Cr) ve bor (B) düzeyleri belirlenmiştir. SerumALP enzim aktivitesi (P<0.001) ile iP konsantrasyonu (P<0,01) BA verilen tüm gruplarda, Zn (P<0.05) ve B (P<0.001)konsantrasyonları da 62.5 ve 125 mg/kg (canlı ağırlık) BA verilen gruplarda önemli düzeyde yüksek bulunmuştur.Sonuç olarak, tavşanlarda 31.25, 62.5 ve 125 mg/kg (canlı ağırlık/gün) borik asidin kemik metabolizması ile ilişkili parametrelerden olan serum alkali fosfataz enzim aktivitesi ile fosfor, çinko ve borun serumdaki düzeylerini artırdığı, ancakdiğer enzim ve metabolitleri etkilemediği belirlenmiş olup, bu hayvanlarda bor iz elementinin farklı dozlarda ve farklıformlarının kullanıldığı çalışmaların yapılmasında yarar olacağı kanaatine varılmıştır.
