In the Age of Digital Transformation in Manufacturing: Sustainability 4.0

Yıl 2024, Cilt: 20 Sayı: 1, 37 - 61, 25.06.2024

Öz

In these times where we are increasingly and frequently confronted with environmental disasters, there is an evident need to address sustainability with a holistic approach, alongside focusing on competition and sustainable growth. In Industry 4.0, which focuses on production, sustainability is considered a key factor. In line with recent developments, this study aims to establish the relationship between Industry 4.0 and sustainability. In order to achieve the mentioned objective, a literature review has been focused. Especially due to the scarcity of Turkish studies addressing the relationship between Industry 4.0 and sustainability, the literature review has predominantly focused on English works. Turkish studies related to the topic have also been included in the literature review. When the literature is examined, it is predominantly expressed that Industry 4.0 technologies will have a positive impact on sustainability. Especially in recent years, it is understood from the literature that Sustainability 4.0 can be an important tool in the process of achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which have been a prominent topic of discussion. Not all studies addressing the topic have been included within the scope of this study. Emphasis has been placed on incorporating recent research into the study. When reviewing the Turkish literature, it is evident that there is a scarcity of studies focusing on the relationship between Industry 4.0 and sustainability. Therefore, it is believed that this study will make a significant contribution to the ongoing discussions in the relevant literature.
