Insomnia has been defined as a clinical course with difficulties in starting or maintaining sleep, and associated daytime dysfunction, despite the favorable environment and conditions for sleep. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) started in Wuhan province of China and spread to the world, causing a pandemic. This disease, which affects the respiratory tract, can clinically cause cold-like symptoms, as well as serious clinical conditions such as acute respiratory distress syndrome or fulminant pneumonia. In addition, Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a neurotrophic virus and symptoms and signs related to headache, dizziness, impaired consciousness, stroke, encephalitis, encephalopathy and peripheral nervous system damage can be seen throughout the course of the disease. In many studies, it has been found that apart from these physical effects, sleep and mental health are also affected. The most common sleep disorder in pandemic is insomnia. With this review, it is aimed to contribute to the literature by reviewing the studies on insomnia during the pandemic period.
