The Influence of Dietary Boron Supplementation on Serum Calcium, Inorganic Phosphorus, Magnesium Levels and Alkaline Phosphatase Activity in Quails

Öz

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary boron (B) supplementation on serum calcium (Ca), inorganic phosphorus (Pi), magnesium (Mg) levels and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity related to bone metabolism in quails. Two hundred and eighty, Japanese quails (Coturnix coturnix Japonica) aged one-day were divided into five groups with four replicates and they were fed 0, 10, 60, 120 or 240 mg/kg B supplemented diets until 35 days of age. At the end of the study, a total of 20 blood samples were collected from each group and serum Ca, Pi, Mg levels and ALP activity were determined. Serum Ca levels decreased in all groups, Pi levels decreased in 120 and 240 mg/kg B supplemented groups and also Mg levels decreased 60, 120 or 240 mg/kg B supplemented groups. No changes were observed in serum ALP activity. In conclusion, 10 mg/kg and over doses of B supplementation to quail diet except ALP activity, decreased serum Ca, Pi and Mg levels, indicators of mineral and bone metabolism of organism. Therefore, further studies with lower levels of B in the form of boric acid supplementation may be more valuable for the field applications

BESİ BILDIRCINI YEMLERİNE BOR İLAVESİNİN SERUM KALSİYUM, İNORGANİK FOSFOR VE MAGNEZYUM DÜZEYLERİ İLE ALKALİ FOSFATAZ AKTİVİTESİNE ETKİSİ

Öz

Bu çalışmada, besi bıldırcınlarında yeme ilave edilen bor (B)’un kemik metabolizması ile doğrudan ilişkili serum kalsiyum (Ca), inorganik fosfor (Pi) ve magnezyum (Mg) düzeyleri ile alkali fosfataz (ALP) aktivitesinde meydana getirebileceği değişimler araştırılmıştır. İkiyüz seksen adet günlük besi bıldırcını (Coturnix coturnix Japonica) dört tekrarlı beş gruba ayrılmış, 0, 10, 60, 120 ve 240 mg/kg düzeylerinde B ilave edilen yemlerle 35 günlük olana kadar beslenmiştir. Deneme sonunda her bir gruptan 20 hayvanın serumlarında Ca, Pi ve Mg düzeyleri ile ALP aktivitesi belirlenmiştir. Serum Ca düzeyleri tüm deneme gruplarında, Pi düzeyleri 120 ve 240 mg/kg ve Mg düzeyleri de 60, 120 ve 240 mg/kg B verilen gruplarda düşerken, serum ALP aktivitesinde herhangi bir değişim gözlenmemiştir. Sonuç olarak, organizmanın mineral ve kemik metabolizmasının göstergesi olan serum Ca, Pi ve Mg düzeyleri besi bıldırcını yemlerine 10 mg/kg ve üzeri düzeylerde B ilavesiyle düşmüştür, ALP aktivitesi ise etkilenmemiştir. Bu nedenle bıldırcın yemlerine 10 mg/kg ve daha düşük düzeylerde B ilavesinin yapıldığı çalışmaların yürütülmesinde yarar olacağı kanaatine varılmıştır
